What is an eSIM?
No physical SIM card is required. When you are using an eSIM-compatible smartphone, you can simply scan the QR code provided by CUniq to store and activate the eSIM and connect to the mobile network without a physical card. eSIM is only applicable to designated models of smartphones, please refer to Applicable Models for details.

How to activate an eSIM?
Scan QR Code
Please confirm your smartphone is connecting a network (WiFi or Mobile Data).
Open the Camera app and scan your QR code.
When the Cellular Plan Detected notification appears, tap it.
Tap Continue and connect the eSIM.

What is an eSIM?
eSIM is a digital SIM card. Customer may use this Service to make calls, receive calls and use mobile data service via the designated smart device without a physical SIM card in Hong Kong. The service and function provided by eSIM are the same as those provided by a physical SIM card.
How many mobile phones can work with one eSIM number?
The Service is only available for use on one designated smart device at the same time. Once the customer switches to another smart device, the customer is required to re-apply for eSIM at CUHK store, and the Service activated via the previous smart device will be automatically terminated immediately.
How many eSIMs can be connected to a mobile phone?
It depends on the mobile device model. Currently, smartphones can store up to 8 eSIMs, but only one can be activated at a time.
I am using a physical SIM card, can I switch to an eSIM?
Yes. The customer has to visit China Unicom (Hong Kong) stores in person to apply for a replacement from an existing physical SIM card to an eSIM. The original physical SIM card will be invalid and cannot be resumed once the replacement eSIM is activated.

The Service is provided free of charge until further notice to
(1) customers who apply to replace an existing physical SIM card by eSIM, and
(2) new customers who apply for eSIM directly
I’ve changed a new phone, how do I transfer the eSIM of the original phone to the new phone?
If the customer applies for a physical SIM card replacement after switching to an eSIM, the customer has to visit China Unicom (Hong Kong) stores in person and pay the replacement fee according to the standard charge rate of the physical card replacement.
I have switched from a physical card to an eSIM, can I still change it back to a physical card?
Yes. The customer has to visit China Unicom (Hong Kong) stores in person and pay the replacement fee according to the standard charge rate of the physical card replacement.
Terms and Conditions:

eSIM service (“Service”) is provided by China Unicom (Hong Kong) Operations Limited (“CUHK”). By applying for this Service, customer agrees to abide by the following terms and conditions:

1. eSIM is a digital SIM card which allows Customer to enjoy mobile services without using a physical SIM. For all 4G and 5G monthly service plans (except those SIM card service numbers starting with 89860), customer can choose eSIM or physical SIM when opening an account. Customer can also choose eSIM or physical SIM when purchasing some designated prepaid card products. However, for designated non-rechargeable prepaid card products, it is not allowed to switch to the other after customer making the first selection upon purchase. eSIM Service is subject to the " General Service Terms and Conditions (Applicable to all SIM Card Users" and/or "Special Terms and Conditions (Applicable to all Prepaid SIM Card Users)" (hereinafter referred to as "General Terms of Service ").

2. Customer must ensure that the smart device has connected to internet network (WIFI or mobile data) before the eSIM Service can be downloaded for use.

3. eSIM Service is immediately activated upon successful download of the eSIM Service and log into the network in Hong Kong or the network of designated area where service is applicable.

4. eSIM Service only supports designated models of smart device, and the designated smart device must operate iOS 12.1 or the latest version of operating system.

5. eSIM Service can only be paired with one designated smart device at a time. Once customer downloads the eSIM, it will be automatically paired with the smart device for which the Service was downloaded. If customer wants to switch to another designated smart device to use the eSIM Service, the customer is required to re-apply for a new eSIM and re-activate the eSIM Service according to the corresponding User Guide. The eSIM Service on the previous smart device that the Service was activated will be automatically terminated immediately. Customer is required to delete the eSIM on the previous smart device that the Service was activated. The mobile phone service number will remain unchanged after the customer successfully re-applies for the eSIM Service. If the prepaid card held by customer provides local telecommunication services and the real-name registration has not been completed, the customer must complete real-name registration before re-applying for eSIM.

6. CUHK supports all 4G and 5G postpaid monthly service plans (except those SIM card service numbers starting with 89860) and some designated rechargeable prepaid card products to switch from eSIM to physical SIM or from physical SIM to eSIM. Customer is required to visit our shops in person to apply for the change. The mobile phone service number will remain unchanged after customer has successfully switched to an eSIM or a physical SIM. If the prepaid card held by customer provides local telecommunication services and the real-name registration has not been completed, the customer must complete real-name registration before applying for switching to an eSIM or a physical SIM.

7. If customer applies for switching of eSIM / physical SIM, CUHK reserves the right to charge customer for switching the eSIM / physical SIM according to the prevailing standard fee for the switching service.

8. Once the eSIM Service is purchased, no cancellation or refund will be accepted. As the mobile service number for eSIM Service of prepaid card is randomly assigned, customer cannot select, withdraw or request to change the assigned mobile service number. Unless otherwise stipulated in these terms and conditions, after the eSIM Service is terminated, customer cannot retain or continue to use the originally assigned mobile service number.

9. Customer understands and agrees that the provision and quality of the eSIM Service depends on the technology and performance of the data network and the eSIM Service may also be affected by other factors, including but not limited to the setting of the smart device or network firewall, the stability and confidentiality of the data network used by customer, and the impact of amendments to the relevant laws and regulations etc. Therefore, CUHK will have the final decision on the provision of the Service and the methods and specifications provided.

10. eSIM Service provides completely the same mobile services and functions as physical SIM cards. Upon customer purchases the eSIM Service, it means that customer has read, understood and agreed to the terms and conditions of eSIM Service and the General Terms of Service and agree to be bound by them. For details of the General Terms of Service, please visit https://www.cuniq.com/global/general/TNC(Select “General Service Terms and Conditions (Applicable to all SIM Card Users)” and “Special Terms and Conditions (Applicable to all Prepaid SIM Card Users)”). In the event of any conflict between the terms and conditions of eSIM Service and the General Terms of Service, the terms and conditions of eSIM Service shall prevail.

11. CUHK reserves the right to terminate this eSIM Service or amend the terms and conditions of eSIM Service at any time without prior notice. In case of any dispute, CUHK reserves the right of final interpretation.

12. In case of any discrepancy between the Chinese and English versions of these terms and conditions, the Chinese version shall prevail.
